The Ultimatum of Klaatu’caricature by Javier Martin
The two dynamics that invariably need to be borne in mind when considering Bodhisattvas are awakening and transforming. Once awakening, the Bodhisattva immediately sets out to transform the life of sentient beings so that they in turn will experience the fruits and liberation of that self-same awakening. Along the way of this most compassionate endeavor, they will experience the ten-stages of Bodhisattva-bhūmi but not without first extending that gift of transformation; hence their life is never an isolated affair but directly other-involved. It’s all about adhering to the Law of Maturation. Jens Braarvig writes:

Further, Noble Śāriputra, Bodhisattvas accomplish five forms of exceptional siddhis which are also imperishable. What are the five? Divine Sight, Divine Hearing, Knowledge of other’s thoughts, Remembrance of former lives, and the Gnosis of magical means.

Then the Noble Śāriputra inquired from the Bodhisattva Aksayamati:
“Most highly auspicious one, why does your name signify ‘Imperishable Intelligence’?”

Unblinking
Not one to be deterred by such erudite skillfulness, Śāriputra simply inquires again as to the nature of Aksayamati’s origin and its proximity to his own universe. Aksayamati throws it back into his court when suggesting he should turn and ask the Buddha himself. Perhaps testing the Blessed One’s own acumen as the All-Knowledgeable one.

Thus have I heard. The Blessed One was residing in Rajagrha…
[“House of the King”, the great town of Rajagrha, or, in the highest meaning (paramarthatas), the place of the Awakened Lord who is the king of religion (dharmaraja), namely the pure sphere of all moments of existence (visuddhadharmadhatu). The tika understands the place of the Lord on two levels, it is the actual town of Rajagrha where his body is, but as the Awakened he is also one with total or absolute reality]
