Obstacles, Shadows, and Delusions — The Subtle Tests of the Heroic Path
(When the Last Nets of Māra Are Invisible) By this point in the Śūraṃgamasamādhi Sūtra, the Bodhisattva has: entered the heroic samādhi; witnessed infinite Buddha-fields; seen Māra converted; stabilized in fearlessness; and mastered skillful means. It would be easy to assume the path is now free of danger. The sutra quietly warns otherwise.
