  1. Methexis says:

The current Pope is a waging war against capitalism. It’s interesting to see a revival of the original Catholic message that got lost long ago. (Either you worship God or the Mammon …)

The “primitive” animistic religions – totemism and such – worshipped objects. When these “primitive” tribes came into contact with Europeans, and observed these curious Europeans and their strange ways, they concluded that “gold” must be the fetish of Europeans, their totem, the object of worship.

Europeans couldn’t explain to them that it’s not the case, that it’s just a tool for value-exchange. But perhaps the “primitives” were more right than the Europeans knew …

Because capitalism is a religion. A primitive, tribal, pagan religion.

The new movie “Wolf of Wall Street” is about that. It’s worth watching. At one point all people at Wall Street hit their chests like gorillas and humm a weird tune. It’s like watching a “primitive” tribe. Those scenes hiddenly point to the fact that capitalism is a religion.

The movie also features a Slovenian actress (she looks like the one you posted, and she’s naked in the movie) – and other references to Slovenia. Why Martin Scorcese did that is unknown to me.

Doubt if i’ll go see that wallstreet flick–but it sure sounds like you have it pegged-down pretty good.

This new Pope Francis is cool. He’s really the way the Jesus in the synoptic gospel accounts truly was; very social-justice oriented. He’s breaking many a traditional standard–love his less-pretentious style and living. Truly a breath of much-needed fresh air for the church.
